Hi, Nellie. I quitted studying at IH, nevertheless I still regard myself as a student. So your first question is addressed to me as well. I prefer teachers who have a gift for teaching, regardless whether they are native or non-native speakers. A teacher who aspires me, motivates me, who is sincere ...

Hi, Vlad! Yeah, even Longman acknowledges that 'likewise' could be used as a response to someone's greeting or polite statement. But what I am trying to say is IMHO word 'likewise' doesn't convey your genuine attitude towards the statement you respond to. I'll make an example. - I love you...(on the...

Thanks for your answer, Nikita!
I just wanted to add that IMHO if someone wants to show his sincerity he should give full answer.
It was nice to hearing from you

P.S.
If I were in your shoes I wouldn't respond to my last line with 'Likewise' :)

Hi, everyone! One of the new words I leant recently is likewise. I came across it in the following context: - It's been very nice meeting you. (said by an adult) - Same here.(said by a child of 13 years) - Likewise.(said by another child of 13 years) In Russian this expresion(Likewise) is commonly u...

Hi, Nikita! I am aware that you are working on a new design of your site. If you don't mind I would like to suggest you something that you might implement in your work. Currently, new materials are denoted by "New", which gives visitors a clue of what have recently been added. Normally the main reas...

Nikita, Microsoft heeds your remark.
Since you discovered the problem with MS Word spell-checker they've made some amends and now the spell-checker of MS Word allows you to write "which" without a comma before it

Hi, Nikita! You brought me really grim tidings(I believe I must use this word at least once). For me these clubs are the only possibility to polish my speaking skills and I am always looking forward to the next club session. It would be a blow to lose them. But even these "encouraging" news wouldn't...

Do Than

Hi, Nikita! I saw your shadow and even heard your steps on IH's stairs yesterday evening, but I didn't have a chance to see you in flesh and blood for I was guarding a room we had a lesson in. Nikita, you must have given the wrong address, because this reference doesn't work. In my perception it sho...

nigh/tidings

Hello, everybody!
From the last book I read I picked up a lot of new words. Here are two of them:
nigh - syn. almost, near
tidings - syn. news
I am wondering are they frequently used nowadays? Is it worth of incorporating them into my vocabulary?
