Can you give the whole sentence please? And I'll do my best to try to help you.
Here is how I see it so far. The first one looks like an imperative (Walk two blocks and turn right). It may be used when you give instructions. For example - On the File menu, click Open.
The second one looks fine to me. Here is what it means:
I found the machine in [a] poor condition. Then I carried out essential maintenance.
Paraphrase: Found the machine in [a] poor condition, I carried out essential maintenance.
